School News & Updates

Fall Family Nights
Fall Family Nights are almost here!
Mark your calendars for:
October 21 for K, 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th
& October 22 for 1st, 3rd,5th, and 7th.
Plan accordingly for programming to start at 5pm in the gym for parents.
Fall Family Nights are a cherished Evergreen tradition. It’s a wonderful time for families to explore our classroom culture, step into our community, and see firsthand the incredible learning and expeditions our scholars are working on.
Plus, it's an opportunity to support our classrooms! With the launch of our annual giving campaign, every dollar goes to sustaining classroom budgets and lowering the cost of End-of-Year trips.
We will have parking available at our upper and lower lots. Once these are full we will have overflow parking at Asheville Gospel Chapel with a shuttle running. Please give yourself time for parking, shuttling and dropping scholars off at their classroom.
Ever After & Fall Family Nights
Fall Family Nights begin at 5. ALL Ever After students MUST be picked up before 5pm on both Wednesday and Thursday. Thank you for your help in ensuring Fall Family Nights run smoothly.
Halloween Costume Exchange
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Let’s do our part in keeping costumes out of the landfills! If you have gently used Halloween costumes from years past, please bring them in and we will facilitate a costume exchange.
Drop off your gently used costumes in the office and during Fall Family Nights come in and “shop” our free collection for a new (to you) costume! All leftover costumes will be available for students to grab in the office on Friday 10/23.
Counseling Corner
In continuing with the ‘theme’ of this month’s Counseling Corner, highlighting important dates within our community, October also marks Emotional Wellness Month!

Emotional wellness is a key factor for a student’s day-to-day experiences– in school, at home, and navigating both expected and sudden transitions that come with a full schedule and academic progress. When emotional obstacles arise for students, having the language and the tools necessary to navigate their experiences makes a stark difference in the development of resilience. The more aware, knowledgeable, and comfortable an individual is regarding their emotional wellness holds a direct correlation with the ability to embrace change, or a ‘growth mindset’ in future problem-solving endeavors.

While many people are familiar with Mental Health Awareness Month in May, Emotional Wellness Month focuses on the everyday tasks we engage in to build our self-care practices, and ‘little r’ resilience– the strategies and tools we use to manage everyday stress. Across different ages, emotional wellness may look different based on developmental needs. Here are a few things to keep in mind when checking in with your student regarding their emotional needs:

•Identifying Coping Strategies- When your student is dysregulated, or has a ‘bad day’, take note of what their first instinct is to address their emotional state. What habits or knowledge do they currently hold regarding self-regulation? Channeling their subconscious needs through observing, supporting, and redirecting external cues of dysregulation can provide both a model of positive coping strategies and the beginning of a framework for student success.
•Encourage Self-Compassion- Our self-talk informs more than just our self-perception. It impacts our ability to ‘show up’ every day– what attitude and expectations we bring into a space. Take note of how your student responds to stress, frustration, or disappointment, and encourage them to apply kindness, understanding, and curiosity to the principle of making mistakes.

Food Pantry is Open
Our families really showed up in September and now our food pantry is overflowing. This is an amazing resource for our families to share in and we invite everyone to take what they need. We will continue to get fresh produce from our community partner, WNC Food Coalition and have everything you need for your meals, as well as snacks, breakfast items and more.

Flag Football
Our final home game is TODAY! Stick around after school today and cheer on our scholars as they finish the season strong!
