History & Traditions
Evergreen Community Charter School was founded in 1999 by a dedicated group of educators and parents who were looking to create a school committed to hands-on learning, parental involvement, and community-based education.
Cherished Traditions
-
Every October, Fall Family Nights gives scholars the stage to celebrate their new learning. Scholars share what they have learned and created in their first Learning Expedition of the school year. It’s an empowering way for scholars to showcase their current work, and a wonderful opportunity for parents to explore the classroom culture and engage with teachers.
-
An annual celebration of connection and community… Grandparents, family members, and special friends are invited to join us on campus, explore student classrooms, experience hands-on learning, and celebrate the incredible bonds that lift up our school.
-
Tourney of the Hoops is Evergreen’s signature spring fundraising event and our high-energy twist on March Madness! This tradition brings our school together for a week of friendly competition, school spirit, and active fun, all centered around a beloved Evergreen game: Capture the Hoops.
During the event, grade levels race to reach their fundraising goals, unlocking daily incentives along the way. The week culminates in an exciting tournament day where students put their teamwork into action!

Each spring, Exhibition Nights offers families an interactive look at a full year of scholar progress and educational adventures. With guided programs and discussion prompts in hand, attendees can ask scholars about their completed Learning Expeditions, explore classrooms across all grade levels, and reconnect with teachers. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the hard work of our community.
-
Evergreen hosts Student-Led Conferences twice a year. With facilitated prep work by teachers, students share their work directly with family members to celebrate growth and set new goals. (K–2 fall conferences are guardian-teacher; K–2 spring conferences are student-led).

Curated by our Environmental Education teacher, Evergreen’s annual Earth Day focuses on positive, actionable solutions, hands-on service, and campus stewardship. Students engage in service learning, such as garden work, trail upkeep, and rain garden care. Newer projects, like using drones to map our campus tree canopy, give students ongoing opportunities to research unique natural phenomena like "crown shyness."

Held 3–4 times a year around events like Constitution Day, MLK Day, and Earth Day, student-led Community Circles bring our entire school together to explore civic engagement, service, and environmental stewardship. Each circle is hosted by a different grade level, giving students a supportive platform to practice public speaking through presentations, song, and peer discussions. Families are always welcome to attend, and circles frequently include donation drives for local non-profits.
For more than 25 years, Evergreen has developed and maintained many annual events that continue to reinforce our mission, vision, and education philosophy.
