6th-8th Electives Family Survey
As we continue thinking about how to make the middle school experience even stronger for our scholars, we are exploring a shift from our current enrichment model to an elective model for grades 6–8.
This shift would give scholars more voice and choice in their learning, while also giving them the opportunity to spend more time developing a new skill, exploring a passion, or strengthening a craft they already enjoy. Possible electives may include Robotics, Spanish I, Art, Music/Band, and more.
Before we move forward, I want to hear from you. Your voice matters, and your feedback will help us think carefully about what will best serve our scholars.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey.
Thank you, as always, for partnering with us as we continue working to create meaningful and engaging opportunities for our scholars.

National Self Care Awareness Month
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month– and it is Self Care Awareness Month. Self care is an important aspect of social-emotional wellbeing. When we attend to our needs and cues of becoming overwhelmed, we can nurture a greater sense of self-compassion and build our capacity to tackle greater challenges in the future.
Self care can also feel especially important when it comes to managing the daily expectations and stressors associated with the school year. Self care can be as involved (or as simple) as you choose for it to be. Understanding what helps you to recharge and to show kindness towards yourself is a form of self-care within itself!
The habits of Evergreen scholars support how important self care is within our school day. Self care can look like self regulation– knowing when to take a break, how to communicate needs and boundaries, and being attuned with one’s presence in the learning environment. In habits of relationship, practicing self-compassion and gratitude can help us to stay grounded and identify supports and strengths when things become too overwhelming.
In continuing to think of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, keeping an ongoing dialogue with your student about their mental health and recognizing signs of overwhelm or stress is an excellent first step in building self-compassion and resilience.
How can you practice self care, or model self care at home with your student? We’ve included a few links below to some resources for establishing simple routines of self check-ins, or generating ideas of how self care may look for you and your family.

| | It’s Book Fair Time!
| Book Fair runs from Sept 21- Oct 1.
| Create your child’s Book Fair eWallet so they can shop cash-free, worry-free, and independently. It’s easy to set up and easy for others to contribute funds.
| |
The Book Fair is so much fun for students, but it can also be a moment when children become aware of wealth inequality. We would love for every student to bring a book home from the fair this year. To that end, we are asking our community to come together to support making our Book Fair a more equitable event. Can you help us share the fair? Share our donation link with your friends and family!
Want to donate a book to Evergreen children?
Click below to make a financial contribution towards making our Book Fair more equitable. With your donation, all students have the opportunity to shop the Book Fair! (Books average $12-$15 each.)
Access to books both at school and at home is important, so thank you for helping us make sure that every child has the opportunity to get a book this year. We are grateful for our community!
