6th-8th Electives Family Survey
As we continue thinking about how to make the middle school experience even stronger for our scholars, we are exploring a shift from our current enrichment model to an elective model for grades 6–8.
This shift would give scholars more voice and choice in their learning, while also allowing them to spend more time developing a new skill, exploring a passion, or strengthening a craft they already enjoy. Possible electives may include Robotics, Spanish I, Art, Music/Band, and more.
Before we move forward, I want to hear from you. Your voice matters, and your feedback will help us think carefully about what will best serve our scholars.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey.
Thank you, as always, for partnering with us as we continue working to create meaningful and engaging opportunities for our scholars.

Behavior Spotlight: Behavior Is Communication
Sometimes our kids show us what they need before they can tell us. When your child is having a hard time, their behavior may be one of the first clues that something needs attention.
Behavior is communication. Tears, yelling, arguing, shutting down, refusing, or a reaction that seems bigger than expected can leave us wondering, “Where did that come from?” But what we see on the surface is often only part of the story.
Underneath a behavior might be a big feeling, a need for connection, overwhelm, fatigue, a difficult task, a sensory need, a desire for more independence, or simply a skill that is still developing. Sometimes we may know exactly what’s going on…and other times, we won’t!
Try curiosity first. When a behavior catches your attention, pause and wonder:
“What might my child be communicating right now?” “What could be making this moment harder?” “What might help them be successful?”
Getting curious doesn’t mean that every behavior is okay or that boundaries and expectations disappear. We can hold a boundary while also seeking to understand the need underneath it. When children feel understood and supported, we also create opportunities for them to better understand themselves, communicate their needs, and build skills for navigating hard moments.
And remember: you don’t have to get it right every time. Sometimes simply approaching a hard moment with curiosity and connection is a great place to start.
Behavior is communication. Get curious about the need beneath it.

Events & Community
| | It’s Book Fair Time!
| Book Fair runs from Sept 21- Oct 1. Book Fair is open during school hours and dismissal time, and will be open on Conference Day (10/1) from 8am-3pm.
| Create your child’s Book Fair eWallet so they can shop cash-free, worry-free, and independently. It’s easy to set up and easy for others to contribute funds.
| |
The Book Fair is so much fun for students, but it can also be a moment when children become aware of wealth inequality. We would love for every student to bring a book home from the fair this year. To that end, we are asking our community to come together to support making our Book Fair a more equitable event. Can you help us share the fair? Share our donation link with your friends and family!

Click below to make a financial contribution towards making our Book Fair more equitable. With your donation, all students have the opportunity to shop the Book Fair! (Books average $12-$15 each.)
Access to books both at school and at home is important, so thank you for helping us make sure that every child has the opportunity to get a book this year. We are grateful for our community!

| | Two Years Later
| As we approach the second anniversary of Helene, some of our community may be looking for a way to reflect and connect with their neighbors. Here is a local event that can help support our community in this heavy moment.
| The second event is being held tomorrow, Friday, September 25th, 8:30-10:30am at Wrong Way River Lodge & Cabins.
