VOLUNTEER

October is National Bullying Prevention Month

This week we're highlighting resources to help parents and students work together to take meaningful action against bullying.

Bullying is defined as an ongoing misuse of power in relationships through unwanted verbal, physical and/or social behavior that causes physical and/or psychological harm. In order to be labeled as bullying, three criteria must be met:

  1. The actions are repeated over time, despite being asked or told to stop.

  2. The acts are deliberate with an intention to cause hurt, harm, or humiliation.

  3. An imbalance of power (physical, status, knowledge, etc.) exists between the aggressor and the targeted individual or group.

As parents and caregivers, one of the most important steps we can take is to educate ourselves—staying informed about current definitions, warning signs, and potential risks ensures we understand what bullying truly is (and what it isn’t). Using accurate, thoughtful language when talking about social behaviors and peer relationships helps create a space for open, honest conversations. With shared understanding and awareness, young people can strengthen their skills and confidence to recognize bullying, respond appropriately, and show resilience—while also playing a key role in fostering a positive, inclusive, and bully-free environment at school, in their community, and throughout their lives.

Halloween Parade

Each year Evergreen holds a Halloween Parade! Students wear or bring their costumes (Check classroom newsletters for guidance from your grade level/s!) and a schoolwide parade of costumes is held on the field. Parents are welcome to attend, it’s more fun with an audience!

Friday, October 31st @ 2pm

When selecting a costume please be mindful that we have a variety of ages at the school, costumes must be appropriate for our younger friends. Our standard golden rule of costumes is: “No Blood, No Gore, No Weapons of War.”

We would also like to remind our community that cultural icons are costumes, a depiction of a whole culture based on stereotypes is not. For more watch, “My Culture is not a Costume”.

Costume Swap

Please bring gently used costumes and costume elements to the front office for families to ‘shop’. You do not need to bring an item to ‘shop’ the swap. All items given and taken freely.
