Community Builders
Community Builders was born from a desire to get to know our Evergreen Community and build the village we want to see in the world. Through monthly low-lift meetings at libraries, at the school, and at local businesses, we gather to get to know our parent community and build relationship!
We strive to offer different opportunities at different times of day, and different days, so that more people have a chance to make it out!
Here are the next 3 dates:
Thursday, August 28th- Popsicle Pop-Up @ the School:
Picnic Island is the grouping of picnic tables that you drive around in car line and is part of the trail that leads up from the lower lot.
Sunday, September 21st- Family Picnic at Evergreen 3pm-5pm
Friday, October 10th - Family-friendly happy hour @ Highland Brewing: 4pm-6pm
Fundraising is never Sweeter
Fundraising is never sweeter than when you are gathering flowers in a field at dusk while the children play.
Pack a picnic dinner and bring the family!
September 9th from 5-7pm
Little Farm, Black Mountain is inviting Evergreen Families to come to their Swannanoa Field to gather, pick, arrange, and kick back on the beautiful property that fills their farmstand!
Prices start at $20. Owners, and Evergreen parents, Mary and Kiera will be donating 75% of the proceeds to the school, making this fun summer’s end activity a great way to support our school!
Come “Be the Village” amongst the blooms!
From the Desk of our Community & Culture Coordinator
Dear Families,
I look forward to building new relationships with some and continuing to uplift relationships that I have already built with others.

This may include:
Weekly check-ins with BIPOC staff, students and families
Weekly meetings with our Executive Director, Jen Watkins
Daily school walkthroughs to check-in with teachers and students
Collaborating with the Director of Development and the Communication Coordinator to plan family education and events that support school goals for culture and engagement
Work in partnership with other school leaders to use restorative practices at the staff level
Serve as liaison for families to support student success
Implement staff structures to support equity work and structures for productive learning and dialogue

Attendance in August and september
Get the school year started on the right foot! Establish a routine that shows your students the importance of being on time and the importance of consistent attendance. Students should arrive to school between 8:00-8:20am so they have time to store their belongings and greet their friends before the announcements and the official start of the school day.
In addition to building good habits of scholars, our state and federal funding is directly linked to our attendance during the start of the school year, so we really need a paper trail that reflects the maximum attendance possible! Especially this year with deep cuts to school budgets, we need every dollar to best serve our students and their families. Please help out by refraining from unnecessary absences.
Welcome back Evergreen families,

Volunteer Opportunities
There is always a list of ways to get involved in your classroom newsletter/s! So check out those ways to get into the classrooms, or take advantage of those at-home opportunities!
One great way to get involved if you don’t have daytime hours to give is by providing the staff with a breakfast snack on Thursday or Friday mornings. This tradition was started by parents and is a wonderful end of the week pick-me-up for teachers.
If you’re new to the school, please make sure you have reviewed the Volunteer Policies and submitted a Background Check, both of these items are linked on our Volunteer Page!
Please do not sign up as a field trip driver unless you are certain you can attend. When drivers drop out at the last minute it has a major impact on the planning your grade level team has done to ensure each child has transport, and that there are an appropriate amount of chaperones.
Keep your eye on The Scoop as the year progresses for other opportunities in the garden, during special events, and around campus!

Building Bridges Fall 2025 Registration is open!
This nine week fall course will happen Monday evenings!
Each Building Bridges session offers education and dialogue about the dynamics of racism and is an opportunity to explore how race has impacted our relationships, communities, and institutions, particularly in Asheville.
