Evergreen Food Pantry

SNAP benefits are going to be massively delayed for many families in our community, we also have members in our community who have recently been furloughed from work. In response, we have set up a temporary food pantry in the front office. Items are available during office hours.

  • If you would like to shop at the pantry, it is open to anyone, no questions asked. Just come to the front office during office hours. *If you cannot come to the school, we are happy to make a bag of groceries for you and send it home with your student. Simply email Kelly if you'd like for us to pack a bag for you.

  • We also have some grocery store gift cards available. Click here if you would like a grocery gift card, and we will arrange for pick up.

You can always find a current menu on our Nutrition Page!

Please take the time to fill out this survey to let us know what your family needs from the kitchen!

World Kindness Day

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.
— Aesop

World Kindness Day is an international celebration held each year on November 13 to promote kindness and goodwill around the world. It was established by the World Kindness Movement in 1998 to encourage people everywhere to be kind to one another through random acts of kindness, volunteering, and positive social connections.

This day is a wonderful reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference! Whether it’s offering a smile, sharing a compliment, or helping a friend in need, every kind action helps our school community feel more connected and cared for.

This week, we invite all students and staff to look for opportunities to show kindness- in the classroom, at recess, and even at home. You might:

  • Write a kind note to a classmate or teacher

  • Invite someone new to join a game

  • Say “thank you” to a staff member who helps you every day

  • Lend a hand when someone needs it

Check out this resource for more ideas!

Families can continue the kindness conversation by asking children how they’ve shown kindness at school and who has been kind to them. Talking about real examples helps kids recognize the power of kind words and actions in their everyday lives, and reminds them that kindness starts with each of us.

Counselors’ Challenge: Try to do three acts of kindness this week and notice how it makes you and others feel!

💛 Happy World Kindness Day from your school counselors!

City of Asheville sponsors a Holiday Free Store

What is a free store? The holiday free store is an event open to the community where all items are given away at no cost. It is community-based and environmentally focused! This year's free store pop-up is a 3-day event: 2 days of accepting and sorting donations and 1 day of shopping and cleaning up.

Why have a holiday free store?
- Sharing what we have in abundance
- Coming together to build community resilience
- Reduce dependency on a system that often overuses resources
- Extending the life of items by keeping them out of the waste stream
- Lightening the financial burden for someone who may need or want an item
- Upcycle items for others for home use or gifting!

Who: This event is open to everyone. We need volunteers to help make it happen! Please spread the word, and sign up for a volunteer shift here. You are also welcome to donate items. Please see the accepted items list below.

When:

  • Thursday, Dec. 11, 4:30-8:30 pm: Accept and sort donations

  • Friday, Dec. 12, 10 am-6 pm:  Accept and sort donations; event set-up

  • Saturday, Dec. 13

    • 9-10 am: Event set-up | 10 am-4 pm: Free "shopping" day; all are welcome | 4-6 pm: Event clean-up; contracted moving company will haul away items for donation
