January 2026

Happy New Year, Evergreen!

It’s great to have everyone back at school! The halls are full of enthusiastic noise and students are settling back in.

Construction updates:

You may have noticed signage and a new construction area near the gym. Site prep is underway for the new kitchen building! Please pay attention to construction signage and barriers and avoid that area.

Unfortunately, this means parking in the upper lot is even more limited than before. If you are walking up to the double doors to get your child at dismissal, we encourage you to park in the lower lot so that our EverAfter staff can find parking in the upper lot.

Measles, flu, pertussis, chicken pox, stomach bugs - yikes:

There are outbreaks of chicken pox and pertussis in the area; here at Evergreen we seem to have had plenty of flu and stomach bug cases, but thankfully nothing else yet.

But serious talk, everyone - there are measles cases in Buncombe county. Because it is so serious and highly contagious, just one case is considered an outbreak. Something important for families to be aware of is that if a child is exposed and doesn’t have proof of immunity (through vaccines, lab evidence of immunity, or confirmation of measles), they will have to be quarantined for 21 days.

Early signs of measles are a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. Because measles is so contagious, any student who shared a space with the confirmed case during the infectious period (4 days before and after rash onset) will be considered a contact and need to prove immunity or quarantine. Please check in with your healthcare provider or the health department if you have questions.

Let’s work together to keep everyone as healthy as possible - wash hands well, wear masks as needed, and if your child isn’t feeling well, please keep them home and check in with their doctor, our school nurse, or the health department. We all need to do whatever we can in order to protect those who are more vulnerable in our community!

Enrollment updates:

Enrollment season has begun, and we need your help to recruit middle school students and fill seats in the upper grades. Each open space we have decreases our revenue by thousands of dollars, and we need every dollar possible in order to maintain current staffing levels and program offerings. Please share and help us fill seats!

Stay healthy and enjoy your January!

Grandfriends’ Day

Getting invitations ready to send out to your extended and chosen family members!

Please let us know who to include by adding their email addresses to this form.

Grandparents day is going to be a little different this year because we’re moving it a bit earlier in the day. The event will run from 9am-11am. This is important because it means that if your Grandfriend takes your child home/out after the event it is too early in the day to count toward attendance, and they would be marked absent for the day. Please encourage your Grandfriend to come- but to leave students to complete their school day!

Robin’s Nest - Here for YOU!

We’ve noticed a lot of kids arriving without coats on these bitterly cold mornings. We wanted to remind our community that we have coats available in the Robin’s Nest that are there, FREE for the taking, if you need them.

We know that many of these students HAVE coats and just refuse to wear them. But if it strengthens your argument: We DO try to get the kids outside every day- even when it is cold or sprinkling. They should really bring appropriate winter gear for class time/recess time OUTSIDE.

2026-27 Enrollment Season has begun!

Get those Evergreen Sibling applications ready!

Our best marketers are you, our families, so please let friends know that they need to apply to join our village by March 31st!

Encourage families to apply for ALL GRADES, not just kindergarten. We especially need to fill our awesome middle school program!

This spring we will be hosting a Middle School Open House and ‘Middle Schooler Only’ Tours!

Full enrollment means more funding from federal, state, and local sources.

Share this with your friends with Middle Schoolers!
