title i at evergreen

Evergreen is a Title I school. This means we receive federal funding based on the percentage of students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch. We use this funding to increase academic growth and proficiency for all students, especially those at risk of not passing. Funding is used to pay Academic Support teachers and other staff, for professional development, and to support students experiencing homelessness.

As a parent of a student in a Title I school, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers or paraprofessionals who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for this information from the school's principal. Contact the principal in writing if you would like to receive this information. The information will be provided within one week of your written request.

The tutoring program at Evergreen provides extra instruction to students at risk of not meeting grade-level standards. Tutors work with students for 30 minutes, twice per week in small groups or in class.

homework help

Should your child struggle to complete their homework, try asking the below questions. These might help you understand why they are having difficulty:

  • What do the directions say?

  • What words or directions don’t you understand?

  • Where do you think you should begin?

  • What do you already know that can help you work through the problem?

  • Show me what you’ve done so far.

  • Where can we find help in your textbook or notes?

  • Are there similar problems to look at?

  • Let’s try drawing a picture or making a diagram.

  • What did the teacher ask you to do?

If your child is still having trouble, talk to their teacher or Title I tutor. All of the teachers at Evergreen are willing to explain or modify homework to help your child be successful!
