Treasure SmithLead Teacher, Fifth GradeB.S. Southwest Baptist University – Arts Education MFA – The Art Institute of Chicago I am originally from Oklahoma and grew up in the Midwest. I managed a Dairy Queen to work my way thorough college. I still have flashbacks of fast food preparation. After graduation, I taught Art in a rural county school which sat upon the Ozark Plateau. There’s an ancient fossil record there, and I often tramped up shallow stream beds looking for Trilobites and arrowheads. I also painted many sugary and ethereal landscapes. Later, I moved to Chicago to attend the Art Institute. I became a cashier at Edmar’s grocery store and worked my way through school again. Chicago was fast paced. I made conceptual art, had some shows, taught, and got heavily involved in community work. After 15 years in Chicago, my life took another shift. Now I am surrounded by mountains, trees, and, and streams. One of the most exciting turns of events since moving is becoming a member of the Evergreen community. When I’m not teaching, I could be working on my old farm house, gardening, hiking, looking at rocks, or researching my family tree. Email: treasure.smith@evergreenccs.org
