Susan Schneider Griesmaier

Middle School Language Arts Enrichment/Logistics

Susan Schneider Griesmaier was born in Erie, Pennsylvania and raised in Jamestown, New York near Chautauqua Lake.  She attended college at North Park College, Illinois and moved westward to finish her BA in Ed. At University of Puget Sound in Tacoma Washington.  Her teaching and traveling with her husband took her to Spain and Saudi Arabia and finally Asheville, NC where she and her family settled in 1983.  Her regular and special education experience has included Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade in private and public school situations.  Her teaching experience has been at Children’s Grammar School, Rainbow Mountain School, Asheville Public Schools and Griffen School at Charter Behavioral Center.  She obtained her Master’s Degree in Special Education at UNCA and WCU.  For the past ten years, she has taught and worked with special needs children and adults mainly in the field of autism.  Susan volunteers in her neighborhood as a block coordinator of her street, Asheville Community Theatre and Asheville High School.  She loves singing as a member of the Crooked Thumb Theatre, eccentric gardening, recycling, going to great yard sales, swimming, yoga, journaling, poetry, and trying hard to make peace as a social activist.  More of her extracurricular activities include traveling to art shows with Jeff her photographer/carpenter husband and traveling to visit with her daughter Natasha and family in Chicago.  She loves singing around a campfire, playing with the cats and dogs and family while living in the log cabin Castle on Caledonia, formerly the old town hall and jail of Kenilworth!
