Welcome To Evergreen Community Charter School

Evergreen Community Charter School is a learning community committed to the pursuit of excellence in holistic education of mind, body, and spirit. We prepare students for lifelong learning, environmental responsibility, and service. We value the voice of every member of our community.

Evergreen Community Charter School is one of 78 schools nationwide to receive the inaugural U.S. Department of Education's Green Ribbon Schools Award, which recognizes the highest performing green schools in the nation. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, together with White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Nancy Sutley and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson, made the announcement.
Where learning is an Adventure!
Evergreen uses the North Carolina Standard Course of Study,http://www.ncpublicschools.org/curriculum/, as a guide, particularly in the areas of mathematics, science, social studies and language arts. Learning expeditions—in-depth studies with relevant and compelling themes—integrate language arts, social studies, science/environmental education, and mathematical application and problem solving. In addition, the arts and technology are woven throughout expeditions, as are field work and community experts.

The methods we use in our classrooms include:

  • Team teaching and collaborative learning
  • Flexible grouping based on ability, interests, gender, heterogeneity, etc.
  • Student-centered projects and research
  • Strategic literacy instruction
  • Writers’ workshop, with attention to the 6 + 1 Traits of Writing
  • Experiential, hands-on learning
  • Fieldwork and service learning
  • A range of activities and opportunities that tap different kinds of intelligence and interests
  • Theme-based, integrated curriculum: using one topic or concept to explore many subjects.
