The Art Teacher’s role is to lead the development and implementation of the Evergreen K-6 Art Program, working with other enrichment and classroom teachers to integrate art into the classroom curriculum and community life. The Art Teacher will work with middle school teachers to integrate art into the expeditions and prepare for occasional art projects for middle school students. The Art Teacher will also lead the middle school art club.

Preferred Training and Experience: Completion of an Art Education program. Training and experience teaching at the elementary and middle school levels.

IT Administrator/ Part-Time 29 hrs/week
Start date: July 1, 2008

Position Description
The IT Administrator’s role is to ensure the stable operation of the in-house computer network.  This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links.  The person will also analyze and resolve end user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide staff training on an ongoing basis.

Responsibilities

  • - Manage servers, including email, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
  • - Manage security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
  • - Manage all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, and UPSs.
  • - Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  • - Ensure network connectivity of all workstations.
  • - Administer all equipment, hardware and software upgrades.
  • - Perform network design and capacity planning.
  • - Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
  • - Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • - Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.
  • - Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • - Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • - Perform server and security audits.
  • - Perform system backups and recovery.
  • - Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports
  • - Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
  • - Oversee laptop cart sign-out and return.
  • - Work in conjunction with network consulting firm.

Position Requirements

  • - College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science or information technology and/or 5 years equivalent work experience.
  • - Certifications in A+, Network +, MCSE, CCNA-required; Server+-preferred.
  • - Working technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Microsoft Office (including Access database) and Symantec Web Security and other Barracuda products.
  • - Application support experience with KeepNTrack and Davis Weather Station.
  • - Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including Cisco routers, Barracuda web filter, CAT 6 termination, Layer 3 switch technology, 802.11X.
  • - Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • - Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • - Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • - Strong written and oral communication skills that enable the ability to work with classroom teachers, technology teachers, office staff and administrators.

Technology Teacher
Full Time 2008-2009
Reports to Executive Director
Salary based on NC Teacher Salary Scale

Teach Technology classes to students in 2nd-8th grade, working with classroom teachers and the NCSCOS to determine appropriate skills and projects for students. Teach middle school Multi-media enrichment class using students’ interests to guide projects. Document technology curriculum in the form of curriculum binders that contain scope and sequence of technology program for grades 2-8, connections to expeditions, student exemplars, plans, resources, calendars, reflections, etc. Assess student technology progress and provide different kinds of feedback to students, parents, and teachers regularly. Coordinate and administer 8th grade Computer Skills Tests. Assist with other computerized testing as needed. Provide support and training to teachers on using technology for teaching and learning. Be responsible for multimedia set up for school-wide events. Assist Director of Development and Communications with website upkeep as needed.

Minimum requirements: Current NC Teaching Certificate and highly qualified status. Three years or more of classroom teaching experience.

Fourth Grade Lead Teacher

Evergreen Community Charter School seeks an experienced fourth grade lead teachers with licensure in elementary education. Elementary Associate Teachers – full and part time
Reports to:  Lead Teacher

Associate Teachers work collaboratively with the lead teacher in a classroom of 19-21 students. Associates teach small groups of students in math, writing, and reading, as well as other subjects in which they have expertise or unique experience.  Associate Teachers assist with classroom management, supervise lunch and recess, drive on field trips, communicate with parents, and act as a substitute lead teacher in the event of the lead’s absence. Associates also have clerical duties, including preparation of materials, collecting monies, organizing the logistics of fieldwork, writing a newsletter, and record keeping. Good rapport with children, strong organizational and communication skills, and a commitment to expeditionary education are required.

Associate teachers work 29-40 hours per week.  Part time positions (29 hours) are paid approximately $12/hour without benefits.  Full time positions are paid approximately $17, 500/year with benefits, depending on experience. Some Associates are licensed, beginning teachers who find that this year of on-the-job “apprenticeship” smoothes the way for a successful transition to lead teaching either at Evergreen or elsewhere.  Associate Teachers enjoy the sense of community and family that Evergreen nurtures, the focus on environmental education, the whole-child approach to education, and our adventure-learning activities. Guidance Counselor/CREW Coordinator
Full Time

Salary: $28,000-$35,000

Position Description

The Guidance Counselor’s role is to provide a comprehensive counseling and guidance program for middle grade students by using leadership, advocacy and collaboration to promote student success, provide preventive services and respond to identified student needs. The Guidance Counselor also serves as the CREW program coordinator and Positive Discipline (see www.positivediscipline.com) coach for teachers in grades K-8. CREW is Evergreen’s advisor-advisee program.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • - Implement the middle school comprehensive counseling and guidance curriculum.
  • - Evaluate and revise the counseling and guidance program on an ongoing basis.
  • - Guide and counsel groups and individual students through the development of personal, social, educational and career plans as needed.
  • - Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students.
  • - Develop relationships with local high schools to help with eighth to ninth grade transition.
  • - When necessary, refer students and their parents to appropriate professional services.
  • - As CREW Program Coordinator, be responsible for staff development, curriculum resources, logistics, and coordination of support for the CREW Program.
  • - Work with the CREW Leadership Team to develop a community-wide celebration ritual early in the school year to initiate the CREW program.
  • - Work with administrators to integrate the work of CREWS into school-wide Community Circles and other important school traditions.
  • - Provide an overarching CREW curriculum of themes for discussion, which includes the ELS Design Principles.
  • - As Positive Discipline Coach, work directly with teachers and students in kindergarten through eighth grade to model and implement the practices of Positive Discipline; provide in-service trainings; provide consultation to teachers on discipline issues.

Position Requirements

  • - Master’s degree in school guidance counseling or equivalent training plus 3 years related work experience.
  • - Familiarity with Positive Discipline.
  • - Strong written and oral communication skills that enable the ability to work with teachers, office staff and administrators.

Coordinator of Program for Advanced Learners – part time (20 hours)
Reports to:  Associate Director for Program and Professional Development

Work with Adults:  Chair the PAL advisory committee (parents & faculty) which identifies and oversees progress toward program goals; provide professional development for and coach teachers in areas of differentiation, serving the gifted, and assessment; facilitate communication and decision making about services between parents and teachers; identify and work with community members who can serve as coaches, mentors, or teachers for PAL projects.

Work with Students: Provide “push in” services for small groups of PAL students in regular classrooms k-8, including writing in 7th and 8th grade; Co-teach short units with regular ed. teachers; teach occasional, short term “pull out” projects or mini-courses involving PAL students; sponsor student government club.

Work with Information:  Monitor and document data from a variety of sources that enable identification of PAL students and improve instruction. Evaluate and report on progress of PAL.  Research, order/create and distribute curriculum materials to support teachers working with PAL students. Promote and reward excellence through parent communications, news releases, school wide events, etc.

Qualifications:  Certification or training in strategies for teaching high ability students. Commitment to serving the needs of gifted students and their families. NC teaching license,  with experience working with students and teachers at multiple grade levels.  Strong organizational, time management, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to facilitate and collaborate with multiple stakeholders. Leadership experience and initiative to build a fledgling program with measurable outcomes and long-term success.

Health Educator
Part Time/10 hours per week
Reports to Executive Director
$12-$16 per hour

The Health Educator’s role is to teach classes of fifth through eighth grade students portions of the school’s Personal Development Curriculum, which includes the NC Healthful Living Standard Course of Study. The Health Educator is also responsible for consulting and collaborating with teachers in grades K-8 to integrate the Personal Development Curriculum in class lessons and to make connections between personal health and environmental health. This includes co-teaching monthly health lessons to K-4 classes. This role also includes serving as a resource person on health issues; organizing health screenings for students; maintaining student health records; and creating health plans for students with health issues.

Preferred Training and Experience: Completion of training necessary for licensing as a registered nurse and experience in pediatrics and/or public health nursing. Training and experience teaching at the middle school level.

What to Expect in the Hiring Process

The process for hiring Evergreen personnel includes the following:
1. Applicant submits application and resume prior to an advertised deadline; current Evergreen employees should submit a cover letter and updated resume.
2. Applications are reviewed by a Staff Selection Committee (made up of teachers and administrators).
3. The SSC decides upon their top 2-4 candidates to interview based on experience, qualifications, and application information (i.e., response to essay question on application, review of licensure status).
4. Top candidates are invited to visit and tour the school. Teacher applicants will teach a lesson when feasible.  If possible, interviews for the same position will all be scheduled within a 2-week period.
5. SSC members agree upon a top candidate based on a close match between the candidate and the school's philosophy/specific job description. If no candidates are satisfactory, the search will be re-opened.   If the committee cannot agree upon a candidate, the Director and Associate Directors will decide among the candidates.
6. The committee makes a recommendation to the Director, who makes a recommendation to the Board of Directors following thorough reference and background checks.
7. The Board of Directors must confirm the hiring decision before the decision is final.
