Evergreen's Board Members for the 2007-2008 School Year
Since returning to America, Stan has taught environmental education for the Connecticut Audubon Society and Schooner, Inc., and coordinated the Singing River Field Center in Northern New Mexico. He began working for the Environmental Leadership Center at Warren Wilson College in 2000. Stan supervises the work of the ELC’s student work crew and directs the ELC's education programs, which include EcoTeam, the Internship Program, and The Green Walkabout©. Ron Maynard, Vice-President, parent Ron is in his 7th year as an Evergreen parent. He and his wife, Kathy, have proudly seen their two older sons Hunter and Zach graduate, while youngest son, Colton, is in 4th grade. Professionally, Ron shares his time between Mitchell's Tuxedos in Asheville Mall, which he and his wife own, and serving as a marketing consulting with Better Publishing producing "THE GUIDE" – Asheville's first digital phone directory. Ron is a graduate of Appalachian State University with a BSBA Marketing and minor in Accounting. He used that expertise and partnered it with a passion for cooking to form Ronz Ribz and Asheville Hot Sauce Co. At Evergreen, Ron serves as the vice president of the board of directors, and is active on several committees. He says, “Kathy and I are always looking for ways to give back to Evergreen because it is our family.”

Susan has a B.S. degree in Special Education from Trenton State College; an M.Ed. in Special Education from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction, also from UNCG. For the past five years, Susan has worked as a School Improvement Consultant with the Southern Regional Education Board which is based in Atlanta, GA. As a consultant, she provided consultation, coaching and professional development to schools across the country implementing the school reform model, High Schools That Work/Making Middle Grades Work. From 1998 until 2002, Susan worked in a variety of roles while completing her doctorate degree. She was an Independent Educational Consultant, a Primary Writer for SERVE, an Instructor at UNCG, and an Educational Consultant at New Century Charter School and Woods Charter School in Chapel Hill, NC. Susan was the Director of The Piedmont School in High Point, NC from 1988-1998. The Piedmont School is an independent school for children with learning disabilities. Susan was responsible for supporting the school’s mission, goals and objectives, overall school management and operations. Under Susan’s leadership TPS developed a Full Day program, significantly increased student enrollment, acquired numerous grants for the scholarship fund, held a successful $1.2 million capital campaign, and constructed a new facility. Susan’s classroom experience includes teaching reading, writing, math, social studies, and study skills to students with special needs at The Piedmont School in High Point, NC and Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, NJ. Susan enjoys pottery, hiking and reading.
Jason also serves on the Asheville Board of Realtors' Communications Committee and is active in event promotion and fundraising in the local community.
Phil Ellis, community member Currently, Dr. Ellis is interested in developing in-school programs addressing attention deficit disorder and learning disabilities. He is currently developing such a program on the campus of ECCS.
Alice is very involved in the Asheville community of which she has been a part since 2000. She is currently on the Board of Directors for Ten Thousand Villages Asheville and the Environmental Educators of North Carolina. She was recently involved in establishing Asheville’s new Jewish Day School, Maccabi Academy, and was the State Coordinator for the national Leopold Education Project since 2002. Alice has developed and led activities, curricula and a variety of programs based on environmental issues, awareness and appreciation. She was invited to join the Board of Directors to share her experience and passion with Evergreen, assisting with the greening of the campus and school practices and offerings.
Before coming to the Evergreen Board, he was chair of the board of Tierra Pacifica Charter School in Santa Cruz, California. In this role, he initiated and directed development efforts that lead to receipt of a $500,000 grant for development of the educational program. During his service on the Board at Evergreen, Jonathan led the long range educational planning effort that established the current School Improvement Program. Currently he is conducting the creation of a Master Plan for the Evergreen school campus.
Professionally, she is a consultant for Lee Hecht Harrison, a global talent solutions company doing career and executive level coaching. She works in a virtual environment with clients from all over the US and occasionally international locations. She also is a managing partner supporting the marketing of her husband’s computer service and support company, Piernone Solutions, LLC. Danielle’s consulting and coaching experience in the career management field spans almost 15 years, and straddles both the North American and European continents. With her passion for helping people lead better lives through better work, it is the thread that unifies her experience through careers in organizational effectiveness consulting, corporate training, management analysis, and retail management. Danielle completed her BS in Business/Marketing from Providence College, before pursuing a Masters in Education (Human Resource Development) from the University of Southern Maine. Along the way, she also served as a Graduate Assistant with Dale Carnegie, and has completed Doctoral-level coursework in Leadership at the University of San Diego.
I worked my way through Mars Hill College and UNCA graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History/minoring in Elementary- Intermediate Education (grades 4-9). I have taught in local school systems as well as the Juvenile Evaluation Center, Manpower Development, and Black Mountain Center. I continued to pursue my passion for teaching and graduated from Western Carolina University with a Master of Education in Special Education, and more recently achieved National Board Certification in Early Childhood through Young Adulthood/Exceptional Needs Specialist. It is my desire to teach every child to learn to the best of their abilities and feel confident and successful. I feel this is a philosophy nurtured at Evergreen Community Charter School!
Mike is our sixth grade language arts/social studies teacher. He is a native of Pittsburgh and a huge Steelers fan. He loves live music, theatre, good reading, and getting out on his bike. He looks forward to working for the Evergreen community on this new level.
Although she grew up in Asheville, she attended UNC-Charlotte before transferring home to UNC-Asheville where she graduated with a Bachelors degree in Sociology. Later, she attended Mars Hill College and attained her licensure in K-6 elementary education. Heather and her husband, Chris, are the proud parents of two daughters, Keilayn, is a Kindergartener at Evergreen, while daughter Breona is at Reynolds Middle School. Heather has worked with children for the past 12 years in various settings including daycare, summer camp, and Asheville City Schools. She has taught children all the way up to fifth grade, and has been a lead kindergarten teacher at Evergreen since 2001. |
