Evergreen is a Kindergarten through eighth-grade public charter school employing the Expeditionary Learning School (ELS) design model.
ELS originated from Outward Bound and strives to develop both the character and the intellect of students. Through our commitment to environmental education, Evergreen students become responsible citizens and stewards of the environment. They learn what is important for success in life – quality work, responsibility, resourcefulness, respect for others, tenacity and teamwork.
Evergreen earned the Honor School of Excellence designation for 2010-2011 and 2009-2010 by making higher than expected growth and having 95% of our students score proficient or above on the state mandated End-of-Grade tests. Only 8% of the schools in North Carolina earned this distinction.
In the 2010-2011 school year, Evergreen also met 17 out of 17 Adequate Yearly Progress goals established by the No Child Left Behind mandate, one of only four schools in Buncombe County to do so.
In 2009, Evergreen achieved full SACS CASI accreditation through AdvancED, an organization that advances excellence in education worldwide.
